Lorica Cordoba, also known as the Chalcidian helmet, was a type of helmet worn by ancient Roman soldiers. It was named after the city of Cordoba in Southern Spain, where it was first produced.
The Lorica Cordoba was made from bronze or iron and had a bowl-shaped design, with a high crest running from front to back. It also had extended cheek pieces and a hinged face mask designed to protect the neck and face.
This type of helmet was introduced in the late 1st century AD to replace the more cumbersome and heavier helmets used by the Roman army. It became popular among cavalrymen as it provided ample protection without restricting movement or vision.
In addition to its protective capabilities, the Lorica Cordoba had a distinctive appearance that made it a symbol of Roman military might and dominance. It remains a popular design for modern military and ceremonial helmets.
